What happened on the last day?
Pompeii was a Roman town which was completely buried with ash by a devastating eruption caused by the volcano called Mt. Vesuvius.
At 1pm the people of Herculaneum saw smoke coming out of Vesuivius about 9 miles high. Ash soon started to fall on the houses of Pompeii and thats when everyone knew that they were in trouble. Most of the people ran away with their money and jewels and rushed outside. The streets were covered in people trying to make their escape. Some people thought that the sea would be a safe place and went on their boats, although some people were left on the beach.
At midnight the cloud of ash grew and went about 18 miles into the sky and lava began to leak out of Mt. Vesuvius and the people left on the beach were burned and buried by the lava. about a hour later, a huge cloud of gas and ash made its way to the town which suffocated and killed the people hidingin the town because how hot the cloud was. They were covered in a cloud which was 900-degrees farenheit and died instantly.
The wrath of Mt. Vesuvius raged on. The remaining lives in pompeii prayed for help but as time passed on, the remaining people died. At 8 am, Pompeii was completely silent.
